Historic Vessel visits Endeavour Quay
Endeavour Quay, in Gosport, recently lifted the historic Motor Gun Boat ‘81’. This iconic vessel is the only one of its kind left in the world. Built in 1942 she has been painstakingly restored and is the recent star attraction at this years Southampton Boat Show. She has made numerous TV appearances and can usually be found at Gunwharf Quay where she draws lots of attention from the crowds of visitors and shoppers.
MGB 81’s owners chose Endeavour Quay’s unique facilities and friendly service for their annual servicing and lift out. With the 180 ton capacity travel hoist crane Endeavour Quay has the ability to use up to 12 straps across the hull, spreading the weight across the full length of the delicate wooden frames of this amazing vessel.
The Skipper of MGB 81, Daniel Jehan later said “I would like to thank you and your team for the highly professional service and approach that was taken to lifting WW2 Motor Gunboat 81 and blocking her off on the Quay.
MGB 81 is a national treasure and the only boat of this type still operating. It has to be said when we decided she needed to come out the water, I was concerned with how we were going to get her out the water and not cause any damage. Meeting you allayed those fears and seeing your team measure, re measure was fantastic, I knew that you were the team to do the job, my expectations were then exceeded when I arrived in the hoist to have your team arrive with custom spacers for the lift, then worked seamlessly with my crew to position the boat.
I have absolutely no hesitation with lifting any boats with Endeavour Quay in the future, thank you again and I look forward to next time”
