It’s not often in the balmy south that we have to don gloves, hats, scarves as well scrape ice and snow off the boats. So it was with some surprise that I found myself treading very carefully over the decks of the 50’ Fleur de Lys just recently successfully sold by Boatshed Dartmouth, with scraper and deck brush in hand.

In preparation for her new life in Brighton the new owner had commissioned some improvements and work at Dartside Quay, Galmpton. This large boatyard covering 7 acres provides excellent facilities on the River Dart and has the largest lifting capacity on the Dart with a 65 tonne travel hoist. As the new owner was not able to come down for the re-launch, Boatshed Dartmouth arranged for a professional skipper to take Yohanna down river to Dartmouth ready for the new owner to collect at the weekend and begin her long journey along the coast.

Despite the snow and ice she looked great with topsides touched up and everything below the water-line checked, replaced and anti-fouled. Once carefully and efficiently placed in the water by the Dartside Quay staff, the engines fired up first time thanks to Stephenson Marine of Dartmouth who had carried out a thorough service of both engines.

Needless to say nothing much else was moving on the river that afternoon – you can see a short video on YouTubewhich shows it was unusually quiet on the river that day – our only stop being for the floating bridge.

Once safely moored up at Dartmouth and connected to shore power with the assistance of the ever helpful Dart Harbour Navigation Authority staff we left her ready to head off for her new life in the South East.
