It’s rare that yachts as well specified and equipped as this Beneteau 473 is, come onto the market. It is rare also to find one with just one owner from new who has used and enjoyed his yacht so much.
She was purchased new in the USA and used in the Caribbean until she sailed to South Devon (where she now lies) in the 2010 ARC Europe.

She is up for sale because her owners want to trade down to a smaller coastal cruiser for their retirement. An important point when buying a boat that originated outside the EU is to check for CE Compliance and also that VAT (if due) has been paid. The good news is that on both counts this Beneteau 473 scores ‘yes’. You can check out the evidence of the CE Marking in the detailed photographs available here

Built in 2001 by Beneteau USA, she had a major re-fit in 2008 after which the owners lived aboard for six months while cruising the Caribbean Islands. She is an excellent liveaboard/long distance cruiser because she has large solar panels (nearly 400w total) and a wind generator that in most conditions power the fridge/freezer, watermaker, autopilot and lighting without the need for battery charging by the engine alternator. The Spectra watermaker is one of the most energy efficient watermakers available. It is equipped with an MPC-500 controller which controls the start up and flushes cycles automatically, thereby simplifying the process of watermaking. The controller will automatically flush the membrane every few days, allowing the system to avoid fouling of the membranes when the yacht is left unattended for extended periods.

An inner masthead forestay with a Profurl unit was added in 2008 on which a heavy (90%) staysail is bent. This sail has proven very effective for sailing to windward in winds > 16kts and also as a storm jib when rolled down. The Beneteau 473 has a long waterline length and a deep keel which makes her a fast passage maker. She gives a gentle and dry ride making long passages a comfortable an enjoyable experience.

She is on the market now and equipped with all the, warps, fenders, tools and spares needed for long distance cruising. Charts (paper & C-Map) and pilot books of the Caribbean are available if required. She has recently been cleaned and polished, the engine serviced and winterised and thoroughly checked over. This is a ‘must see’ yacht ‘ready to go’.
